Hansei is a japanese word that can be translated as reflection, introspection or even meditation. The first time I heard that word I was 5 or 6 years old. I used to spend a lot of time in my grandfather’s house at that time and every time I made some mischief, he used to tell me “hansei-shinasai” (do hansei). Several years later while I was reading about Toyota, I found the word again explained as a fundamental step for improving.
After remembering the term, I’ve been using the concept to help teams resolve conflicts, improve their retrospectives and generate more awareness in their team environments with great results.
In this Pecha Kucha, I want to share what’s hansei in more depth, how can Agile teams can take advantage of it and share some concrete experiences in Agile environments.
